Chemistry in the Classroom

Chemistry and Schools: A Partnership for the Future

The Società Chimica Italiana (Italian Chemical Society) has always been committed to promoting scientific culture, with a particular focus on younger generations. We believe it is essential to introduce young people to the world of chemistry, sparking their curiosity and interest in this fascinating discipline, which offers a wealth of opportunities. For over 40 years, the SCI has developed various initiatives dedicated to schools. Through the Chemistry Games (Giochi della Chimica) and related competitions, the Avogadro Games (Giochi di Avogadro) and the Cannizzaro Games (Giochi di Cannizzaro), the SCI contributes to educating a new generation of citizens who understand the central role chemistry plays in our society.

Giochi della Chimica

For Upper Secondary School Students

The Chemistry Games (Giochi della Chimica) are a national competition for upper secondary school students, organized into several stages: regional, national and international. Promoted by the SCI since 1984, they provide a stimulating and engaging educational experience, allowing students to tackle theoretical and practical chemistry problems while strengthening their scientific skills.

Giochi di Avogadro

For Lower Secondary School Students

The Avogadro Games (Giochi di Avogadro), introduced by the SCI in 2024, are designed for students aged 11 to 13. Through fun and engaging questions, participants are guided through the fundamental concepts of chemistry and the scientific method, using language and a format suited to their age group. Participation is free of charge and, for many students, represents their first concrete step towards studying chemistry.

Giochi di Cannizzaro

For Primary School Students

The Cannizzaro Games (Giochi di Cannizzaro) are the SCI's most recent initiative dedicated to science education in primary schools. Designed for fourth- and fifth-grade pupils, they offer fun activities, virtual laboratories, multiple-choice questions and interactive games to introduce the basic concepts of chemistry in a creative and engaging way.
