Società Chimica Italiana plays an active role in the global scientific community, working with institutions and chemical societies to advance chemistry across Europe and worldwide.
SCI is a member of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS), which brings together 42 chemical societies from more than 30 countries and represents over 160,000 chemists in Europe.
Through EuChemS, SCI contributes to the development of European science policies through:
Participation in consultations held by European institutions, providing evidence-based scientific input.
Opportunities for dialogue among researchers, citizens and policymakers on major scientific and societal challenges.
Analysis of EU initiatives relevant to chemistry and research to support science-informed decision-making.
Preparation of position papers, recommendations and expert contributions to support European institutions.
SCI promotes international scientific cooperation through joint prizes, awards and initiatives with chemical societies in other countries.
A scientific distinction jointly awarded by SCI and the Real Sociedad Española de Química.
A distinction jointly awarded by SCI and the Societat Catalana de Química since 2025.
An award honoring chemists who distinguish themselves through scientific achievements and a commitment to humanitarian values.
Established in 1993 and first awarded in 1994.
Italian-French chemistry meetings held every two years since 2002, alternating between Italy and France, and organized by the SCF Sud-PACA Section and the SCI Liguria and Piemonte-Valle d’Aosta Sections.
A distinction jointly awarded by SCI and the Société Chimique de France.
Cooperation agreement between Società Chimica Italiana and the Chinese Chemical Society.
Cooperation agreement between Società Chimica Italiana and the Chemical Research Society of India.
Founded in 1919, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is the global authority on chemical nomenclature, terminology and scientific standards. It promotes international cooperation and the advancement of chemistry.
Italy is one of the five founding countries and is represented in IUPAC by the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), which serves as its National Adhering Organization (NAO). Through the CNR, SCI actively contributes to IUPAC's work, with its members taking part in international committees, projects and working groups, thereby strengthening Italy's role in the global chemistry community.
