On September 12, the Central Council of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) approved the new document “Towards a Fair and Inclusive Italian Chemical Society: the Equal Opportunities Plan”, which was also presented that day at the General Assembly.

With this decision, SCI strengthens its ongoing commitment to building a more open and equitable community. The Plan sets out clear goals and concrete actions to reduce persistent inequalities in the field of chemistry, with particular focus on gender issues that continue to affect career progression—especially in leadership roles and among young women scientists.

The document highlights the importance of fostering inclusive environments where everyone can reach their potential free from barriers or bias, ensuring balanced participation in all aspects of scientific and organizational life. At the same time, it calls for valuing diverse perspectives and promoting a culture that recognizes and embraces diversity as a key resource.

Through this initiative, the Italian Chemical Society reaffirms its commitment to monitoring progress and promoting measures that make chemistry not only a discipline of scientific excellence, but also a field where inclusion and shared growth can flourish.
