Premio Giovani Federchimica

The Società Chimica Italiana took part in the award ceremony of the 2025–2026 National Youth Award, “Chemistry: The Science That Saves the World”, promoted by Assobase and PlasticsEurope Italia in collaboration with the Società Chimica Italiana and Amaplast, focusing on basic chemistry and plastics.

The event was held on 14 September at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan and brought together more than 300 students from various regions of Italy, accompanied by their teachers and parents.
The competition, which involved over 1,300 primary and lower secondary school students during the 2025–2026 school year, received 42 submissions, of which 17 were selected for awards: 9 in the basic chemistry category and 8 in the plastics category.

Through videos, quizzes, stories and articles, the projects creatively explored the technological and scientific achievements that have improved quality of life, with particular emphasis on the role of basic chemistry and plastics.
The President of the Società Chimica Italiana, Prof. Luigi Mondello, took part in the award ceremony for the Basic Chemistry category, supported by the Società Chimica Italiana together with Assobase and Amaplast.

The award went to Class 5A of the Aldo Moro Primary School, part of the Sant'Andrea Comprehensive School in Biassono (Monza and Brianza), for the project “Our Body: What a Chemistry Laboratory!” (https://premiofederchimicagiovani.federchimica.it/docs/default-source/v…).

For younger children, discovering chemistry through hands-on experiences, questions and curiosity offers a direct way to appreciate its beauty and understand its presence in everyday life.
The SCI recognises the importance of initiatives such as this in making chemistry familiar and accessible from the earliest years of education. As part of their awards, the winning classes will receive educational materials for use in their schools.
