Welcome to the Chemical Science Communication and Outreach Thematic Group

The Group promotes activities aimed at disseminating chemical knowledge and fostering a greater appreciation of chemistry. Its twofold objective is to enhance skills in the communication and dissemination of chemical sciences while raising public awareness of the key role chemistry plays in ensuring well-being and social development.
We believe that the Società Chimica Italiana, drawing above all on the passion and commitment of its members, should play a leading role in this process.

The Group began its activities during the 2019–2021 term under the coordination of Sara Tortorella. During this period, it contributed to the organization of events, exhibitions, competitions, workshops, and a school dedicated to chemical science communication (SCI*C).

Activities continued from January 1, 2022, under a new Executive Board for the 2022–2024 term, coordinated by Stefano Cinti. During this period, the Group focused on disseminating chemical knowledge through initiatives designed to engage an increasingly broad audience, from schools to universities, as well as through newspapers, radio, books, theatres, public spaces, social media, and much more.

On January 1, 2025, a new Executive Board took office for the 2025–2027 term, under the coordination of Ottavia Bettucci. Its activities will focus on consolidating the initiatives launched during the previous term while expanding science communication efforts through new projects and collaborations.
Partnerships with schools, universities, and external organizations, including cultural associations, will help broaden the Group's reach, bringing chemistry beyond the laboratory and making it accessible to wider audiences.
