The School on CONVENTIONAL AND HIGH-ENERGY SPECTROSCOPIES FOR INORGANIC, ORGANIC AND BIOMOLECULAR SURFACES AND INTERFACES is focused on the spectroscopic and morphological characterization of surfaces and solid interfaces of any possible composition.
This is the fifth edition of a consolidated training event that started in Florence (for the first two editions, in 2017 and 2019), was held online during the COVID19 pandemic, and then moved to Brescia in 2024. CHESS is supported by several Italian Research Institutions, Scientific Societies and Consortia, and has gained an increasingly international character.
The School offers a comprehensive and unifying vision of the processes underlying surface characterization. A number of instrumental techniques is presented by experts in the field. Topics include the most diffused spectroscopies and microscopies for surface analysis, diffraction methods, spatially resolved analyses. Part of the School specifically focuses on Synchrotron facilities and related techniques. A dedicated tutorial session encourages non-expert users to apply for beam time and/or Synchrotron spectroscopies. Applications are also covered, including the discussion of selected industrial cases of study.
