Declaration of Sustainability GDCh

On 29 September 2025, the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) signed the Declaration of Sustainability promoted by the German Chemical Society (GDCh).

The declaration, presented during the GDCh Science Forum Chemistry 2025 in Karlsruhe, expresses the shared commitment of European chemical societies to integrate the principles of sustainability into research, education, and scientific activities.

Stockholm Declaration

On 23 May 2025, the Società Chimica Italiana endorsed the Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future, presented at the Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm during the 198th Nobel Symposium “Chemistry for Sustainability: Fundamental Advances.”

The declaration, promoted by the Stockholm University Center for Circular and Sustainable Systems (SUCCeSS) with contributions from leading scientists and industry representatives worldwide, presents a renewed vision of chemistry as a strategic discipline to address major global challenges — sustainability, public health, energy, and environmental protection.

By joining the declaration, the SCI reaffirms its commitment to fostering a more responsible and sustainable chemistry, in line with the principles of safety, circularity, and social responsibility promoted by the international scientific community.

SCI on Climate Change

At its meeting on 9 June 2016, the Central Council definitively approved the official document — available here as an attachment — outlining the position of SCI on climate change.

The document was prepared by a Working Group established by the Central Council on 10 December 2015, coordinated by Professor Fabrizio Passarini, then President of the Division of Environmental and Cultural Heritage Chemistry, and composed of the following members: Nicola Armaroli, Vincenzo Balzani, Carlo Barbante, Ugo Bardi, Riccardo Basosi, Simone Bastianoni, Ezio Bolzacchini, Antonio Marcomini, and Roberto Udisti.
